Ms. Abbie Taylor
I had the opportunity of having Ms. Abbie Taylor as my professional mentor this year. Ms. Abbie Taylor is a 3rd grade teacher at Lincoln Elementary School. I enjoyed having the opportunity to go into her classroom to observe her and her class. I am grateful that I had the chance to see another teacher in action. There are many ways of being a successful teacher, and I think it is wonderful how many different teachers I have had the privlege to watch throughout my education at the University of Mary. There are two great tips of advice that Abbie Taylor left with me. The first was "make sure to find a balance between one’s personal life and one’s career." It is important to realize that we cannot do it all, there are only so many hours in a day. Yes, there will be time when we use our personal time for our career but we just need to remember to find a balance and still enjoy our personal life. The second piece of advice was to "be open to new opportunities. By being open to new opportunities one can build a stronger teaching philosophy and work towards being a better educator". I would not be where I am today without these experiences the University of Mary has provided me, and Ms. Abbie Taylor will always have a lasting imprint on my heart as a professional. |
Mrs. Lucia Shelley
I had the opportunity of having Mrs. Shelley as my faculty mentor this year. I highly enjoyed the time we spent together. We had multiple meetings in her office, we spent our time discussing my future plans and goals. Before talking with her I thought of the future sometimes, but she was very good about asking questions and helping me understand more about what I want in my future. In addition to discussing future goals she helped me work through the process of applying for a sub license which will be a great way for me to gain more experience in the teaching profession. Mrs. Shelley also provided me with the opportunity to go out and observe student teachers with her. This was a wonderful experience because it showed me what it will be like when I student teach. |
